That isn't a very realistic assessment. You're not going to have much of an 8-man GvG team if they have wildly incompatible schedules. How would someone make a team's roster if he was always working when everyone else was playing? I think it's a perfectly reasonable expectation that everyone on a team's roster will have a compatible schedule with each other.
Now maybe you're all nightshifters and can only play when everyone else is at work, in that case you get screwed by these fallback times. But I'd be really surprised if that was the case for any guild in the tournament.
Peace,

i must ask, are all of the upcoming tournaments going to be arranged like this? if so i will NOT be participating in them because having to forefit like this is BS!

It's a very realistic assessment. It may not be relative to all, but it is to me and many others. We deal with it in [OUT]. Here is one of many examples, a real life conundrum. We had to specifically recruit a reserve-3rd monk because Minsc is an MD and has to cover weekend and evening shifts, second shift. That is one of the many issues that make us carry 12 core players. We simply could not play with an 8-man GvG team.
The all kinds of IRL in between is the biggest concern for most teams. I know it is a broad brush stroke, but hey, people have a lot of different shit to do and at all hours of the day.
Take care Ensign.

Well, there are 2 points of view in this situation.
It is true that a lot of us have work/school/other real life problems , but that's the reason we chosed to play GW, because it doesn't require you to grind in order to do pvp.Living this beside, I would like to point out the fact that if a guild knows they won't be able to assure some kind of flexibility in their playing programs, they should think more about participating in this tournement. It's like taking part in a real life tournament, but you don't have the time to play the matches.
There is the option to settle when to play the game, but here is thing: ArenaNet gives an fallback hour that usualy is great for the first team X (X vs Y)If the teams are from Europe, then they usually settle on the fallback time because it's about 7-9 PM so the vast majority of players come back from work, school, etc.For 2 european guilds this is great, but when the challenge comes from an American Guild, that's when the problem ocures. Have in mind that their fallback time represents an playble hour for them, while in europe, this time comes about 3-5AM. So their leader, if he will want to negociate an other hour, will try to assure an playable hour for their players. To say it in a simple way, European guilds cannot play against american guilds , due to the time difference.
And the american guilds knows this thing. Some of them will show real sportsmanship, while others will use this in their advanatege.
For the moment, the only solution the resolve this problem, is to assure matchups betwen guilds from the same continents. There are a lot of US and European guilds in the ladder so this won't be a problem(probably more european guilds) When the competion will aproach the finish, selecting the first 16 guilds, it will be a lot more easy for the ArenaNet Team to organize the remaining matches.

EW 3-0 over OUT
3-0? Indeed.
First match err7 on OUT player #1...resigned during match EW +1
Second match no load on OUT player #1...resigned before 1 minute. EW very polite and cool, lets try again. +1 for being great sports
Third match, EW wins with a nice split and a great backline build. +1

So a fallback time of 3-4am for one team, and 6-9pm for the other is equally difficult for both teams? Really?
What are the core hours? In Europe it is probably 6pm-10pm GMT, and in the States from something like 1am-6am GMT. So a time which is either at midnight GMT or midday GMT would be equally difficult for both sides on a weekday given that you need to allow at least 2 hours for the match. Midnight +2 GMT =3am central european time, very difficult to get players to play that late if they have school/work the next day, at least as difficult as arranging to get out of school/work early if you are in the pacific zone.

If the chalenger is from Europe, the fallback time is 19:00 GMT which in my country means 21:00 PM. That's usually the hour when we do gvgs.
If the chalenger is from US, the fallback time is 3GMT which in EST it's about 22:00 PM, in CST it's 21:00 PM , in MST it's 20:00 Pm and in PST is 19:00 PM. Again, rezonable hours for gvgs.
The only problem is when an US guild meats on Eu guild or the other way around.
Luckly this round is in the weekend, but still, I would suggest if the rounds where set in every weekend.
A lot of core players have work/school the next day, and I don't even want to know how it would be to play an US team during the week.

Forsaken Wanderers 2 vs Ex Talionis 0
After some early scares about players being able to make the proposed time we managed to get our team up in time. Sorry Talionis guys. Otherwise good games and gl down the road.

Kind of disappointing actually considering we knew their entire build, skill by skill, before the first match even started.

Congratulations as being the worst guild out there. The guild i played today was late but as long as you can agree and be cool about then play. When you call someone for being 20 minutes late and get rule police on them, shame on you. And your bragging about this...

I'm not going to say that it's nice, but considering that it was 3 AM for the euros and something like 7 PM for RIP, and that my alliancemates probably wanted to play at the fallback time, I can at least understand their reasoning.

Well, they just outplayed us as far as I understand (I'm not playing in the tourney myself). They do deserve their #23.
Second opponent didn't show up.
